The Daughter of Time review — a hopeless whodunnit
I love theatre. I love whodunnits. But can the stage thriller still cut it in 2025, when it's as whiskery an enterprise as Viennese waltzes, buttermints or reasoned political debate?
Certainly it appears to be having a moment. PD James's Death at Pemberley has just started a tour. Coming within the next few weeks are tours for the TV detectives Inspector Morse (House of Ghosts), DI Barnaby (Midsomer Murders: The Killings at Badger's Drift) and DSI Grace (Picture You Dead). These join the London mainstays The Mousetrap (est 1952) and Witness for the Prosecution (2017). The latter's director, Lucy Bailey, is also behind a tour of Agatha Christie's Death on the Nile, while her previous Poirot, Murder on the Orient Express , tours China this autumn.
